A snow sensor works by detecting the presence of snow or ice on a surface and automatically triggering heating or control systems. Most snow sensor designs use either moisture-sensing probes, temperature sensors, or a combination of both. When the temperature drops near freezing and moisture is detected, the sensor identifies that snow or ice is forming. Once activated, the snow sensor sends a signal to turn on devices such as roof de-icing cables, ground heating mats, or outdoor safety systems.
By responding only when conditions meet specific thresholds, a snow sensor helps reduce energy consumption while keeping walkways, driveways, and roofs safe. Its automatic operation makes it ideal for smart building systems and winter maintenance applications.
